{"id":1599,"date":"2020-06-16T08:56:00","date_gmt":"2020-06-15T22:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webdev.sydney.edu.au\/kolling\/?post_type=news&#038;p=1599"},"modified":"2026-03-12T14:16:48","modified_gmt":"2026-03-12T03:16:48","slug":"new-investment-in-innovative-approach-to-osteoarthritis-treatment","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/kollinginstitute.org.au\/staging\/news\/new-investment-in-innovative-approach-to-osteoarthritis-treatment\/","title":{"rendered":"New investment in innovative approach to osteoarthritis treatment"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Key research into the treatment of osteoarthritis is set to be strengthened with the Kolling\u2019s Professor David Hunter receiving a large NHMRC investigator grant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The highly competitive grant was awarded to the Florance and Cope Chair of Rheumatology for a five-year project to transform treatment options and delivery of care for osteoarthritis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Hunter welcomed the grant, saying osteoarthritis is a leading cause of disability in Australia and across the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cDespite the burden of the disease on the community, the current management of the condition is frequently inappropriate and costly.
