{"id":1596,"date":"2020-05-27T08:55:00","date_gmt":"2020-05-26T22:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webdev.sydney.edu.au\/kolling\/?post_type=news&#038;p=1596"},"modified":"2025-08-30T08:56:05","modified_gmt":"2025-08-29T22:56:05","slug":"research-may-lead-to-early-warning-test-for-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/kollinginstitute.org.au\/staging\/news\/research-may-lead-to-early-warning-test-for-covid-19\/","title":{"rendered":"Research may lead to early warning test for COVID-19"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>For many people with COVID-19, the first sign they had the virus was a loss in their sense of smell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now a team from the Kolling Institute and Royal North Shore Hospital will investigate the correlation between the virus and early symptoms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Study lead Associate Professor Rory Clifton-Bligh said a loss of smell has emerged as a common symptom of COVID-19 infection, but the current data is relying on subjective, self-reported information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThis study will objectively assess loss of smell with people who have tested positive to COVID-19,\u201d said Associate Professor Clifton-Bligh, head of Endocrinology at RNSH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe will be using a validated test kit for smell identification.
